Getting to Seisia

Seisia is accessible by land by 4WD, air or sea.

Seisia is approximately 28 km from the northern most point of Australia, the Tip of Cape York. As you can see by the map, we are located in the most northern region of Queensland, right at the tip of Australia.

The drive from Cairns is approximately 1000 kms, with only the first 300 kms being bitumen. A great adventure can be had with this part of the holiday alone. In the early part of the year April – June you may encounter several ‘washouts’ on your journey. However, when the school holidays arrive, you will find the amount of vehicles on the ‘track’ will increase, as will the corrugation. For many, getting there is just the start of a life time experience, very few ever forget.

Below you will find a mode of transport to suit every person’s time frame and comfort requirements. Also included is information on accommodation which we can arrange if you so choose.

Skytrans - Departs from Cairns Domestic Terminal and flies across the Cape to Bamaga, just a short drive from your destination at Seisia. You can often connect through from the southern states to travel in one day. Talk to us about your best travel options.

Regional Express- Departs from Cairns Domestic Terminal and flies direct to Bamaga, just a short drive from Seisia. You can often fly from home to Bamaga in one day.

Qantas – Departs from Cairns Domestic Terminal to Horn Island, twice a day 7 days a week. A short ferry trip will take you to Thursday Island. Here you have a few hours of site seeing on a truly historic Island, before boarding the Peddells Ferry at 2.30pm for a 1hr trip direct to Seisia Wharf.

Seaswift – the Trinity Bay, which is our cargo carrier, departs Cairns 12 noon every Tuesday and accommodates a variety of cabin layouts for up to 44 people. After a brief stop at Lockhart River to off-load cargo you arrive at Thursday Island on Sunday. The final destination of Seisia Wharf is reached on Friday depending on tides. You can depart Seisia on Friday and arrive in Cairns on Sunday.  It's a terrific way to relax before or after a week of fishing.
